Project Description
This is a 54 unit building of studio (37) and one bedroom (17) apartments. Of these, 5 are disability modified and 6 are adaptable units meeting the Class C adaptability requirements. All units are for singles and couples with no children.
Project Partners
This project was made possible through funding of over $10 million from the Commonwealth Government under the Nation Building and Jobs Plan and a further $200,000 donation from the City of Yarra. Other important partners include the Director of Housing, BBP Architects, Taras Nominees Pty. Ltd. and Salta Constructions.
Design Features
The building has the following environmentally sustainable and general design features: Hydronic heating to all apartments 48 Bicycle parking spaces Rain water harvesting for garden watering and toilet flushing Grey water recycling Hot water plant; centralised solar with gas assist Hydronic heating; centralised gas fired High performance 'Smart glass' Ventilation: Cross flow/ natural ventilation system + ceiling fans External screens to all apartments facing Flockhart Street for sunlight/ heat screening or privacy Gas boosted solar hot water services with storage and quick recovery capacity Sunscreen roller blinds in all living rooms and block-out roller blinds in all bedrooms Bulk supply utilities for studios, removing the need for tenants to arrange individual utilities Free common laundry facilities Electronic access control CCTV Secure bicycle storage Ground floor community space including kitchenette
