Project Description
This building is an old nursing home that has been redeveloped into 24 self-contained units for singles. It includes 2 disability modified units, a common room, secure bike store, 7 car parks and an administration area to be utilized for support services and tenancy management.
Project Partners
This project was made possible though funding of over $3.5 million from the Office of Housing. Other important partners include Carabott Holt Architecture and Momentum Commercial Pty Ltd.
Design Features
The building has the following environmentally sustainable and general design features: Hydronic heating Cooling through ceiling fans in units Bulk supply utilities with no need for tenants to arrange individual utilities Free common laundry facilities including high speed, water efficient, front-loading machines with service yard for hanging of clothes Gas boosted solar hot water with storage and quick recovery capacity Electronic access control and CCTV security Landscaped garden area with BBQ Sunshades over windows to deflect summer sun Solid brick walls with high thermal mass to assist with heating during winter and cooling during summer Good solar orientation of external private open space
