Project Description
This is an 84 apartment building for singles and families. It comprises 3 buildings, 2 with 24 studios each, and one family building with 36 apartments. The family building contains 22 one bedroom, and 14 three bedroom units. These also include 8 disability modified units and 10 adaptable units. Additionally, the development includes a community facility accessible too all units, a secure bike store and 55 car parking spaces.
Project Partners
This project was made possible through funding of over $16 million from the Commonwealth Government under the Nation Building and Jobs Plan. Other important partners include the Director of Housing, Carabott Holt Architecture and Buildcorp Commercial.
Design Features
The building has the following environmentally sustainable and general design features:
- Hydronic heating
- Cooling and natural ventilation through cross flow ventilation, open stairwells and ceiling fans
- Gas boosted solar hot water with storage and quick recovery capacity
- Grey water treatment plant for flushing of all toilets in the development
- Sunscreen roller blinds to all living rooms and block-out roller blinds to all bedrooms
- Free common laundry facilities with high speed, water efficient front-loading washers for studio units, and provision for washer and dryer in family units
- Electronic access control and CCTV
- Extensive gardens including secure yard for each building and a herb and vegetable garden accessible to all tenants
- BBQ, bench seating and children's playground
