Project Description
7 level apartment building located within 2km of Melbourne’s CBD. Small public park located behind the site on Cambridge Street and easy walking access (< 300m) to a range of public transport services, shopping and local community resources in Smith St. Upper level units have commanding views to south east over CBD.
Design Features
Key features of the physical and social design include:
- Complete integration of the building within the surrounding private residential environment
- High security access
- Design to maximise natural light and natural ventilation
- All units have private balconies
- Mix of singles, couples and small families
- Mix of households receiving Centrelink incomes and employed households (50/50)
- Partnership with local agencies to provide services and support
- Basement parking for 15 vehicles and 19 bikes
- Wheelchair access to all units and communal areas
- Basic furniture and linen provided to all studio apartments
Environmentally Sustainable Design
This project will meet 7 star energy rating through the incorporation of the following ESD elements:
- Passive solar design
- Insulated building envelope
- Solar screening
- Gas heating
- Gas boosted solar hot water, centralised plant
- Gas appliances
- Rain water harvesting for toilet flushing and garden use
A key design objective of YCH is to minimise future water and energy costs to tenants.
